Terrorism suspects, Criminals, and illegal immigrant suspects are being taken off airline flights to Australia. The reason being? Organized crime groups from around the globe are running extremely sophisticated fake passport operations to infiltrate Australian borders.
Barreling through Australian Borders
Already this year, 14 suspects were detected after landing in Australia with fake documentation. Out of those 14, 5 were Australian natives. Figures obtained by the News Corp Australia have shown that the Australian border officers intercepted hundreds more over the past five years as suspects attempt to board Australian destination flights.
Fake Travel Documentation
These fake documents are extremely sophisticated. One Albanian suspect attempted to fly to Sydney from Dubai with an Italian passport (can you keep up with that trickery?) – when questioned in Dubai, the suspect couldn’t speak any Italian. Busted.
The majority of fake passports are coming to Australia from Indonesia, China, Malaysia, Denpasar, Singapore, Dubai, Jakarta, Doha, and Abu Dhabi. Over the past 4 years, Australian border force officers have reported 1043 non-genuine travelers, and of those, 335 were carrying fake passports. They even detained a man who was traveling with a passport-making machine.
Keeping the Border’s of the World Safe
So how can we ensure the safety of our world’s borders? Converus’ solution, EyeDetect, would be an efficient and accurate method to help test potential passport fakers on the spot in airports globally. EyeDetect is effective in uncovering lies, the test is non-intrusive, and in just 30 minutes it detects detection based on eye analysis. It would help weed out those who are committing document fraud.
