Tech Experts to Demonstrate Cost-Cutting Way to Streamline Hiring Process at Feb. 20-22 Police Recruitment Event
Converus, a featured speaker at The 13th Police Recruitment and Retention Summit in Las Vegas, will discuss how law enforcement agencies can quickly secure top candidates in a competitive, limited job market using its EyeDetect lie detection technology.
LEHI, Utah – Feb. 16, 2024 – Thanks to advancements in employee screening technologies, law enforcement agencies can quickly identify the most qualified job candidates while substantially reducing hiring costs, according to tech company Converus. Company CEO Todd Mickelsen will explain these technologies following the keynote presentation and present a case study with staff from a sheriff’s office at The 13th Police Recruitment and Retention Summit in Las Vegas Feb. 20-22.
Nearly 100 U.S. law enforcement agencies use EyeDetect in their hiring process. EyeDetect is described as “a nonintrusive, scientifically validated lie detection technology that accurately screens job applicants for disqualifying activities during an automated, 30-minute computer-based test by analyzing involuntary eye behavior.” Test results are available within 5 minutes.
“EyeDetect, used in conjunction with polygraph, has been a huge benefit for our agency,” said Idaho State Police Captain Matt Sly.
Some of the disqualifying activities EyeDetect can identify during an applicant screening are serious crimes, drug use, work-related disciplinary issues, ties to terrorists and other criminal or unethical behaviors.
“EyeDetect has a long track record of helping law enforcement agencies put better people in uniform for a fraction of the cost of other screening methods,” said Mickelsen.
Mickelsen and Austin Mead of the Davis County Sheriff’s Office will speak on “Pre-Screening Efficiency to Improve Hiring Process” immediately following the opening keynote by the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Dept.
“Decreasing the hiring processing time, reducing the recruiting budget, improving the quality of the candidate, and removing negative hires that can damage an agency’s reputation are topics I will address,” said Mickelsen.
EyeDetect, released in 2014, is the first viable, scalable job screening alternative to polygraph — which has been the de facto lie detector since 1921. In 2015, the Salt Lake City Police Department was one of the first U.S. law enforcement agencies to add EyeDetect to its hiring process. Since the EyeDetect test is automated and fast, 10-15 screening tests can be conducted daily by one person.
Because of EyeDetect’s efficiency and cost-savings, Mickelsen predicts it’s just a matter of time before it becomes part of every law enforcement agency’s hiring process.
The event’s website promises opportunities for police personnel to “explore new approaches to maximize your in-person recruiting efforts” and “assess new technology solutions on the market to help with your recruitment efforts and streamline processes.”
“And that,” said Mickelsen, “is precisely why we’re there.”
