EyeDetect+ Revolutionizes Polygraph Technology with Less-Invasive Data Collection Methods
Converus Introduced a Blood Pressure Cuff replacement and Other Advanced Physiological Measurements, Making Polygraph Testing Less Uncomfortable While Maintaining Accuracy

For law enforcement agencies that require polygraph be used in the hiring process or in investigations, a new, automated polygraph is now available. It combines similar physiological activity monitored and recorded by a traditional polygraph with ocular data from Converus’ standard EyeDetect test and is 89-91% accurate.
LEHI, Utah – Sept. 24, 2025 – Converus, maker of the world’s first automated polygraph EyeDetect+, continues to lead polygraph innovation through advanced physiological data collection methods that eliminate some of the discomfort associated with sensors used during traditional polygraph testing.
Released in 2021, EyeDetect+ introduced several breakthrough technologies to the polygraph industry, most notably pulse transit time (PTT), which enables blood pressure to be measured during testing without the need for a traditional arm cuff. To achieve this, the system utilizes electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring and photoplethysmograph (PPG) sensors to collect the same cardiovascular data as traditional polygraph instruments. Without the need for a restrictive arm cuff, examinees are much more comfortable during testing.
“The blood pressure cuff can become extremely uncomfortable when inflated for long periods of time during a traditional polygraph examination,” said Converus President and CEO Todd Mickelsen. “By replacing it with small ECG pads attached to both wrists, the testing process is significantly more comfortable for examinees while maintaining the same diagnostic accuracy.”
PTT is time taken for a pulse wave to travel between two arterial sites (heart to finger). The speed at which this arterial pressure wave travels is directly proportional to blood pressure; thus, PTT provides cardiovascular data equivalent to traditional blood pressure measurements.
The innovation builds on foundational research, including work by Andrea Webb in 2006 that demonstrated PTT’s effectiveness in psychophysiological detection of deception. EyeDetect+ combines these advanced physiological measurements with ocular-motor data in what credibility assessment experts call the most comprehensive automated polygraph system available.
The addition of PTT by other lie detection instrument providers is an indication of its value. At the 2025 American Polygraph Association Seminar, Lafayette Instrument announced plans to incorporate pulse transit time technology into its next instrument release in 2026, referring to it as “pulse arrival time.”
“EyeDetect+ represents a major advancement in the evolution of psychophysiological detection of deception techniques and instrumentation,” said Dr. John Kircher, Converus chief scientist and co-inventor of both EyeDetect and the computerized polygraph. “The system captures more diagnostic information through less-invasive methods, making it unaffected by the examinee’s age, gender, language or ethnicity.”
The automated system eliminates potential human bias in test administration and scoring, with tests taking 20-45 minutes compared to 90 minutes or more for traditional polygraph examinations. Results are available in less than five minutes with 87-91% accuracy depending on test type. Traditional polygraph results can take several hours.
EyeDetect+ has earned recognition from Security Today magazine, winning both the 2020 New Product of the Year Award and the 2022 Govies Government Security Award in the employee screening category.

About Converus®
Converus provides scientifically validated credibility assessment technologies. VerifEye® is the world’s first mobile app to help organizations or individuals accurately verify the truth about a person — including background, identity, creditworthiness and claims — in about 10 minutes. EyeDetect®, which detects deception by measuring involuntary eye behavior, is a fast, accurate, affordable, noncontact, scalable, and fully automated option to polygraph. EyeDetect+ is the world’s first automated polygraph, making the testing process impartial, accurate, and less intrusive (than a traditional polygraph). It assesses credibility by monitoring and recording ocular activity plus physiological activity similar to a traditional polygraph. Customers worldwide use the EyeDetect product line for screening and investigations to help protect countries, corporations and communities from corruption, crime and threats.
