Nation’s “Best Known Expert on Deception,” Pamela Meyer, Joins Converus Advisory Board
Meyer, a best-selling author and YouTube phenomenon, predicts EyeDetect is going to lead the way in creating a safer, more honest world. She said the unbiased nature of the technology is a game-changer.
LEHI, Utah – April 11, 2017 – World-renowned deception detection expert, bestselling author and TED talk superstar Pamela Meyer has joined the Converus Advisory Board. She will provide strategic direction and broad industry contacts to Converus at a time when the company is poised for explosive growth in both the private and public sectors. Utah-based Converus has provided technological tools for credibility assessment since 2014.
“Converus’ EyeDetect technology is a game-changer. It’s unbiased, inexpensive, and developed by a world class team of developers who know how to develop scalable products. It represents a quantum leap forward in the field of deception detection,” Meyer said.
Unlike polygraph, the de facto lie detection method, EyeDetect doesn’t rely on any cables or sensors. Instead, it uses a high-definition eye-tracking camera that takes approximately sixty measurements per second of involuntary eye behavior in each eye — including pupil dilation, blink rate, fixations and other eye movements — to detect deception. The high-tech camera is mounted beneath a computer monitor and takes measurements according to a proprietary algorithm while examinees answer true/false questions during a 30-minute test. Results are available within five minutes.
Meyer’s Washington, D.C.-based company, Calibrate, has also partnered with Converus to offer integrated deception detection solutions to its clients. Calibrate trains financial institutions, insurance providers, law firms and human resource professionals worldwide on inside threat mitigation, verbal and non-verbal cues to deception, facial micro-expression interpretation, advanced interrogation techniques, and information elicitation.
“I was impressed with EyeDetect because it removes the potential for human bias,” said Meyer. “Everyone is asked the same questions on the automated EyeDetect test. The answers are interpreted by a computer that knows nothing about the person answering the questions. Not only is it unbiased, but it’s also fast, inexpensive, scalable and highly accurate.”
She notes that EyeDetect will lead the way in creating a safer, more honest world.
“The cost of deception to our republic, as well as to our companies, is significant,” said Meyer. “I think Converus and the suite of products it has developed will lead the way in helping remedy that.”
Meyer quickly gained notoriety in the deception detection world, first with her 2010 best-selling book, “Liespotting: Proven Techniques to Detect Deception,” followed by her 2011 TED talk, “How to Spot a Liar,” which now has nearly 16 million views and is one of the 20 most popular TED talks of all time. Reader’s Digest referred to her as, “the nation’s best known expert on lying.”
Today, Meyer speaks globally on deception detection, inside threats, ethics and negotiation. She has been featured on many media outlets, including NPR, CNN, CNBC, ABC and in Forbes, Bloomberg Businessweek, The Washington Post, the New York Post and Harvard Business Review. Meyer also writes regularly for The Huffington Post and her blog, liespotting.com.
“Pam’s unique expertise and high profile in the deception detection world will undoubtedly play a major role in helping us create a more honest world with our technology. We’re thrilled to partner with her and have her on our advisory board,” said Converus President and CEO Todd Mickelsen.
She joins existing Converus Advisory Board members and credibility assessment experts Don Krapohl, Charles Honts, Ph.D. and Darryl Bullens.
Meyer holds a Masters in Public Policy from Claremont Graduate School, an MBA from Harvard, and is a certified fraud examiner.
