Mark Handler Receives Coveted Max Wastl Sr. Award from the American Association of Police Polygraphists

LEHI, Utah – May 11, 2017 – The America Association of Police Polygraphists (AAPP) has named Converus Director of Professional Services Mark Handler its 2017 recipient of the Max Wastl Sr. Award. Handler, who previously served as the AAPP Research and Information Chair, also received this award in 2014.
Converus is a Utah-based tech start-up that develops credibility assessment tools. Its first product, EyeDetect, is the world’s first ocular-motor based lie detection technology and is regarded as the first breakthrough in effectively uncovering lies since the polygraph was invented nearly 100 years ago.

According to AAPP, this award began in 1990 to pay homage to Max Wastl Sr. for his long and continued contribution to the polygraph profession. Winners of this award have made significant contributions, whether in science, research or advancements in polygraph instrumentation or testing techniques or distinguished, long-standing service in the polygraph industry. Winners must be in good standing with the AAPP and receive a unanimous vote by the AAPP Board of Directors.

Handler also serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the American Polygraph Association (APA) newsletter and has published or co-published more than 50 peer-reviewed scientific papers on polygraph. In addition, he serves on the board of the American Polygraph Association. Previously, Handler was a Deputy Sheriff in Conroe County, Texas and a U.S. Navy nuclear submariner. Handler joined Converus in August 2016.
