HR Hiring Tips: Look for the Humble, Hungry, and Honest
By Joshlin Sheridan, Marketing —
Overwhelmed by the HR Hiring Process?
As you search through a pool of many qualified candidates for a job opening, you might wonder,
“What traits should I look for?” It can be daunting to know whether to focus heavily on those with the perfect skill set, experience, or compatible personalities. HR and recruiting expert Maren Hogan offers suggestions on where to begin. In positions where skill can be trained, focusing on the three Hs of HR hiring will help you find the best candidates for your job.
The Three Hs of Hiring
According to Hogan, the three Hs of HR hiring are: humble, honest, and hungry.
Humble employees will communicate kindly, share credit with others, and take both criticism and praise well. During an interview, you can tell that someone is humble if they listen politely without interrupting and don’t point out the shortcomings of others.
Hungry employees have a passion for the industry and their role within the company. During the interview, look out for those candidates who are intrinsically motivated and seek the well-being of the company.
Lastly, honest employees are vital to any company because they will help other colleagues remain honest, give critical feedback, and will not steal. During the interview, you can make sure there are no questionable things in their resume. You can also ask the applicant about their personal values.
