Global Data Fusion Introduces New Lie Detection Technology to Louisiana
LEHI, Utah – Feb. 2, 2015 – Global Data Fusion, LLC (GDF), a Lafayette-based background screening company, is bringing the world’s first ocular-motor based lie detection technology to Louisiana. The technology, called EyeDetect, uses an infrared eye tracker to monitor involuntary eye behavior — such as pupil dilation, blink rate and fixations — to detect deception in 30 minutes while a person answers true/false questions on a computer screen.
GDF was recently featured on KATC-TV 3 and KLFY-TV 10 in Lafayette.
In the U.S., EyeDetect will be used mainly by federal and local governments and law enforcement agencies for pre- or post-hire testing. The government can also use it for screening large groups, such as refugees and visa applicants. Another application is testing parolees and sex offenders.
“This new technology is a game-changer for the lie detection industry,” said GDF President and CEO Ed Roy who introduced the technology to the Louisiana news media at a Jan. 28 press conference. “It’s fast, nonintrusive and accurate. I’m confident it will soon be a key tool for helping counter terrorism and keeping our communities safe.”
Utah-based technology start-up Converus brought EyeDetect to market in 2014, focusing initially on Latin America. Late last year EyeDetect was launched in the U.S. GDF recently received EyeDetect training prior to becoming a Converus Premier Service Partner. This allows GDF to administer the EyeDetect testing, as well as for the sales and service of EyeDetect hardware and software packages. Field tests show EyeDetect is 85 percent accurate, but when used with the polygraph, accuracy hits 97 percent. A written test report is available within 10 minutes after the test is completed, showing whether the applicant is truthful or deceitful.
“When Global Data Fusion shows Louisiana law enforcement and government agencies the EyeDetect technology, these agencies will quickly see how this lie detection method will cost effectively help hire and maintain an honest workforce,” said Converus President and CEO Todd Mickelsen. “Plus, GDF — with an additional office in Washington, D.C. – makes them an ideal Premier Service Partner as we’re actively working to get this technology into federal entities.”
