New EyeDetect Lie Detection Technology Now Available in Norway
By merely reading a person’s involuntary eye behavior, this ocular-motor method for detecting lies is up to 90 percent accurate.
LEHI, Utah – October 28, 2019 – Instead of connecting polygraph cables and sensors to individuals to detect deception, now Norway government and law enforcement agencies can use a new lie detector that can look into a person’s eyes to reveal lies with a 90 percent accuracy in 15 minutes. This new technology, EyeDetect by Converus, recently became available in Norway from Converus Service Partner Etterforsker1 Gruppen AS.
“EyeDetect is a major breakthrough in lie detection that will give Norwegian organizations an opportunity to detect deceptive with greater accuracy faster and at a far lower cost,” said Etterforsker1 Gruppen AS Founder Thomas Mathiesen, who has extensive experience in IT security and investigation services. Mathiesen is also a member of World Association of Detectives and The Society of Professional Investigators.
Mathiesen said he saw great interest in EyeDetect while demonstrating it at the annual World Association of Detectives Conference in Stockholm in August.
“Many were skeptical at first that a computer could detect lies by measuring involuntary eye behavior, but when EyeDetect correctly identified the number they had secretly chosen during a numbers test demonstration, they became immediate believers,” said Mathiesen.
The testing process is simple: A person sits at an EyeDetect Station, which is a computer equipped with an eye-tracking camera. The eye-tracking camera takes approximately 60 measurements per second of involuntary eye behavior in each eye — including pupil dilation, blink rate and other eye movements — while the person answers a series of true/false questions for 15-30 minutes. At the conclusion of the test, the eye measurements and test responses are uploaded to a secure cloud server where they’re analyzed by proprietary algorithms that determine within 5 minutes whether the person is being truthful or deceptive.
Nine peer-reviewed studies have validated EyeDetect’s accuracy, which is as high as 90 percent. Law enforcement agencies, governments and companies worldwide use EyeDetect to screen job applicants for issues that would disqualify them from working for the organization — such as serious crimes, drug use, terrorism and other criminal or unethical behaviors. In addition to screening job candidates, it can be used to conduct criminal investigations.
“EyeDetect will help produce better hiring decisions and solve crimes quicker,” said Mathiesen.
EyeDetect is currently used by more than 500 customers in 40 countries in 40 different languages. For more information about EyeDetect and Converus, visit: converus.com
