Edwin Duterte Says Being “Certified Honest” by EyeDetect Lie Detector Will Help Him Unseat Maxine Waters in Fall Election
Duterte believes integrity is the new strategy politicians can use to win more votes and elections.
LEHI, Utah – April 27, 2018 – Is there such a thing as an honest politician? Edwin Duterte is the first known politician (elected or not) to verify to the public he’s honest and trustworthy by willingly submitting to a new lie detector test called EyeDetect. He’s scheduled to take the test April 30. Results will be revealed to the public May 2 at a press conference.
Duterte, a 2018 Republican candidate seeking election to the U.S. House to represent the 43rd Congressional District of California, is hoping this truth-verifying technology by Converus gives him the edge he needs to unseat Democrat Incumbent Maxine Waters. Waters has held the seat for 27 years.
“I speak the truth. I really believe congressional members need to be truthful, honest, and they need to be as transparent as possible,” said Duterte. “I don’t see those qualities in Maxine at all. I’m the cleanest candidate in this race.”
Duterte says he would love to lead a movement to at least get the House of Representatives to become certified honest by EyeDetect.
EyeDetect is the world’s first nonintrusive lie detection technology that accurately detects deception in 30 minutes by analyzing involuntary eye behavior — including pupil dilation, blink rate and other eye movements. During the automated true/false test, an eye tracking camera takes approximately 60 measurements per second of each eye. At the conclusion of the test, the data are securely uploaded to a cloud server where proprietary algorithms determine whether the examinee is truthful or deceptive.
“EyeDetect has advanced technology that surpasses anything currently on the market,” said Duterte. “There are ways to fool a polygraph test by manipulating the physiological changes it’s measuring, like breathing and heart rate. EyeDetect is an automated test measuring involuntary eye behavior. It can’t be fooled.”
Duterte, a successful businessman, says he’s getting into politics because of all the dysfunction in the way the country is run.
“During the 27 years Maxine Waters has been in office, she’s sponsored more than 400 bills and only got 3 passed into law. That’s 99 percent failure rate,” Duterte said. “Had she been running a company in the private sector, it would have been a complete disaster and she would have been out of business a long time ago.”
Even though his district is only 14 percent Republican, Duterte is optimistic he can garner enough of the African-American voters that feel disenfranchised with Waters, along with the Hispanic, Asian and other
minority votes, to pull off an upset. But first, he has to beat his two better-funded Republican challengers to win enough votes to make it to the June 5 top-two primary contest.
“Money will not win this race, but votes and integrity will,” said Duterte. “Voters want their elected officials to be open and willing to take integrity, honesty, and lie detector tests. It gives them a lot of confidence in who they’re voting for.”
“We applaud Edwin for his willingness to verify to the 43rd Congressional District of California voters that he’s an honest person who will do what he says he’ll do,” said Converus President and CEO Todd Mickelsen. “Who knows? This may start a trend among politicians that see winning votes via certifying their personal integrity is the new strategy for political victories.”
EyeDetect is currently used by more than 450 customers in 40 countries worldwide in 25 different languages. Several U.S. law enforcement departments now use EyeDetect to screen job candidates, with the Palm Springs (CA) Police Dept. becoming the most-recent customer. For the first time since its 2014 release, a New Mexico district court ruled this month that EyeDetect test results will be allowed as evidence in a court case.
