UN Peacekeepers Use EyeDetect to Uncover Falsified Documents, Prevent Theft of Confidential Information
The Ukrainian office of UNSPIA, an international agency, has found Converus’ new lie detection technology saves time and reduces costs in the hiring process.
LEHI, Utah – July 26, 2019 – Since implementing the Converus EyeDetect lie detection technology in its hiring process last February, the Ukrainian office of the United Nations Soldiers of Peace International Association (UNSPIA) has reduced pre-employment screening by approximately 3 hours per examinee. Over the next year, UNSPIA says EyeDetect will reduce hiring expenses by approximately 20,000 euros.
“EyeDetect has been an excellent fit within our objectives,” said Vlad Nepochatov, director of the UNSPIA Ukraine office. “EyeDetect currently serves as an additional tool to confirm the identity of screened individuals, giving us higher probability of the correct results.”
UNSPIA first learned about EyeDetect from the United States Agency for International Development.
Nepochatov says feedback from EyeDetect examinees has been positive. Comments include: “That was fast,” and “[EyeDetect is] much more comfortable than the polygraph.”
Prior to adopting EyeDetect, UNSPIA’s Ukraine office found it difficult to confirm the identities and past actions of certain job candidates. Nepochatov said many frequently presented falsified documents and identities. In addition, some current employees were suspected of stealing confidential information. UNSPIA’s only methods for screening were various database analytical platforms similar to I2 (an IBM analytical platform), as well as profiling interviews.
“We strive to implement the most advanced technologies with the least involvement of the human factor,” said Nepochatov.“UNSPIA decided to implement EyeDetect not only because it was the latest lie detection technology, but also because it’s compact, mobile and automated — there isn’t any potential for human bias.”
Since 1995, and with the support of the United Nations services, UNSPIA has provided support for UN agencies and foreign partners on international security, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, mine actions and humanitarian assistance issues. UNSPIA, a member of Global Civil Protection Cluster, is headquartered in Lyon, France and has a presence in more than 20 countries.
“EyeDetect and its various protocols offer a wide range of benefits not only to organizations on the local or federal level, but also to those on the international level,” said Converus President and CEO Todd Mickelsen.
EyeDetect is a nonintrusive, scientifically validated lie detection technology that accurately detects deception in 15-30 minutes by analyzing eye and other behaviors. Results are available within 5 minutes. It’s currently used by more than 500 customers in 40 countries in 30 different languages.
