Fraud Risk Varies with the Region
There are many factors you need to consider when deciding where to live. Is the economy growing? How is the climate? Is it safe? You might not have thought to ask about the security of identity, but it turns out the risk varies depending on where you are on the map. Thanks to RewardExpert who studied the statistics, we have the answers.
The Worst States
The riskiest states are found in the southwest. California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas all rank in the top 10 for the highest risk. Nevada tops the chart with 135.8 cases of identity theft per 100,000 residents, and the average identity theft loss of $3,281.13.
The Best States
If you want to minimize your risk, move to the midwest. South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming and Nebraska rank in the top 10 of the safest states. The winner? Iowa, with 68.1 cases of identity theft per 100,000 residents, and the average identity theft loss of $818.54.
New Technology Minimizes Risk
No matter where you go there is risk of both credit card fraud and identity theft. However, Converus®, a company working to minimize everyone’s risk, has created a new identity verification service technology called IdentityDetect™. It can detect imposters with 90 percent accuracy –in only minutes. This breakthrough technology analyses mouse movement and keystrokes as users take a one to two minute test. When implemented, those both in Iowa as well as Nevada will be confident that they are well protected.
