Illegal Aliens and Identity Theft
By Kaiden Waldram, Marketing —
Identity theft is becoming a big issue in the United States. While there are some safeguards to prevent identity theft, many people seem to still find ways to get around these precautions.
Falsifying Tax Returns
One recent and growing concern of identity theft is illegal aliens using fake social security numbers to file tax returns. The IRS recently stated that they identified 1.2 million tax returns that did not match any social security number. This is an extremely large number of people trying to take advantage of the U.S. government. In 2015, the IRS paid out 3.14 billion dollars to illegal aliens. Imagine how that money could have otherwise been used!
Identity theft is a real issue. When people deceive the government, it hurts our country and it means that the tax money that we pay is used in a less efficient way. It causes our money to be used in ways that we have not approved.
Preventative Measures
We need to take steps to help prevent theft and deception in our country. A company called Converus® is set on eliminating theft and deception. They have created a product called IdentityDetect® that could be used to help the government avoid giving out tax money to those who create fake identities. IdentityDetect is a web-based or mobile app identity verification service test that can quickly verify a person’s identity and expose fake identities with 90 percent accuracy. Incorporating IdentityDetect into government procedures, would be a major step in helping eliminate identity fraud.
