Identity Theft — A Big Problem in the United States
By Kaiden Waldram, Marketing —
Identity theft is becoming a big issue in the United States. There are becoming more and more options to try and solve the problem, but people seem to still find ways to get around these precautions.
Illegal Immigrants and Fake SSN’s
One recent form of identity theft is illegal immigrants using fake social security numbers to file tax returns. The IRS recently stated that they identified 1.2 million tax returns that did not match any social security number. This is an extremely large number of people trying to take advantage of the U.S. government. In 2015 the IRS paid out 3.14 billion dollars to illegal aliens. That is a large sum of money that the government could have used for other purposes to improve our country.
Real Life Problems
Identity theft is a real issue. People deceiving the government hurts our country and it means that the tax money that we pay is used in a less efficient way. In a sense, our money is being used in ways that we have not approved.
How Can We Stop Theft?
We need to take steps to help prevent theft and deception in our country. A company called Converus® is set on eliminating theft and deception. It has created a product called IdentityDetect®, an identity verification service. IdentityDetect® could be used to help the government avoid giving out tax money to those who have not rightfully earned it. By incorporating IdentityDetect® into government procedure major steps can be taken to eliminating deception
