Elderly Woman Gets Taken to the Cleaners, Loses Money

An Elderly Woman Fooled by Scammers, and Loses Nearly Her Entire Life Savings.

These days it seems that scammers are becoming more and more of a problem. I personally receive phone calls from scammers at least once a week. In retrospect, it’s surreal speaking to someone trying to scam you out of your money or trying to steal your identity.
Losing Your Entire Savings
I recently read about an elderly woman who nearly lost all of her life savings to a scammer. The scammer who reached out to her, was pretending to be a police officer. Seeing that a police officer was asking her for information, she trusted his authority. Sadly, she nearly lost her entire life savings. Luckily, the local police department stepped in.
The World We Live In
It’s a sad reality that the world we live in is one where you always have to have your guard up. It’s sad that people can be so trusting of others. There are people, or scammers, in the world who readily take advantage of those who are trusting. They attempt to steal others money and identities. I’m sure the elderly woman had never dealt with scammers before. More should be done to try and prevent scammers from taking advantage of people.
To The Rescue
A company called Converus® has a product called IdentityDetect™ that is meant to help protect people from identity theft. This identity verification service would help banks and other institutions decrease scammers capability to impersonate or steal their client’s money. An added measure such as this could help protect people from the possibility of having their identity stolen.
