The Ripple Effect of Corruption on the People
By Russ Warner, VP Marketing & Operations –
Life is full of ripples; our actions affect each other, whether for good or ill. When one person acts selfishly, there is always a ripple effect. It gets paid forward.
The ripple effect of government corruption can be far reaching. A government officer stealing millions of dollars affects countless individuals, budgets, programs, and more.
Corruption in the Philippines
In the Philippines, arrests have been made regarding corruption in the government, including senator Juan Ponce Enrile. Enrile’s alleged crime was to receive proceeds from a political scam that stole money from anti-poverty and development funds allotted to lawmakers.
Ironically, the 90-year-old senator won the hearts of the people by helping them throw off Marcos’s dictatorship in 1986, and he has served in multiple political offices since that time.
Enrile may not have committed the crimes for which he is accused. Some argue that he has been falsely accused for political reasons.
How to Battle Corruption
With anti-deception tools like EyeDetect™, interrogators could more readily identify the truth in an unbiased and non-intrusive way. EyeDetect allows the subject to respond to true/false statements once the optical scanner is calibrated to their eyes, and it’ll measure eye behavior as they respond to the questions.
As the Philippines works to determine Enrile’s guilt and the guilt of other government officials, EyeDetect could quickly and efficiently prove to be a very beneficial tool.
In this case, corruption’s far-reaching consequences are significant. For decades, the Philippines has experienced severe poverty, with millions of citizens fleeing the nation to pursue the hope of a better tomorrow in other countries. If Enrile intended to remove funds destined for the poor, then he should be punished accordingly.
Sadly, the poorest economic groups who struggle to live each day can be the target of the selfish acts of a few. Regardless of the tools used, it iss vital to root out corruption and promote ethics and integrity in government.
