Creating Company Culture
By David Hales, Marketing —
Building an ethical culture in your company sets a tone of dedication and vision. Having the right attitude and values in the workplace can put you above the competition and help your company achieve the goals it sets. Many CEOs and other executives not only hope to hire and obtain employees that work hard and are effective but they also seek employees who can set a culture of quality ethical behavior.
Culture Begins at the Top
Creating the right culture starts with management with a top-down support system, and that established culture is strengthened by a bottom-up “buy-in” from employees. This means that those in high management positions need to show the way and lead by example. These leaders need to be the best available—their attitude and objectives in the workplace must follow core values of the company. If they gain trust from others and demonstrate stellar leadership skills, the rest of the company’s employees will “buy in” to the cultural ideals of the company and follow their examples. Culture begins at the top.
Managing Culture
Culture in a company needs to be contemplated, designed, and executed. If not, the culture itself can start to manage the company since it is the single most influential determinant of behavior within an organization. If there is a culture of “work hard, play hard”, you will find that the behavior within the company will follow this path. Therefore, it is very important to create a culture within a company that reflects the type of organization and behavior that you want represented for your company.
Creating the Ideal Culture
How can a company create the ideal culture to optimize production? It begins in the hiring process. Employers should filter applicants during the screening process. Applicants should not only have the qualifications for the job but they should also have the qualities you want in an employee for your company. Think long term. Will this job applicant live by and improve our company culture? Determining this can prove to be difficult in a simple interview. Many job applicants seek to portray themselves with attributes the employer desires. There is a need to be able to filter applicants with the ideal character for the culture of a company.
Filtering Applicants for the Ideal Culture
EyeDetect is a lie detection software that assists companies to filter large quantities of job applicants. A simple test with EyeDetect can reveal much about the qualities of potential employees. It can help you determine if job applicants are in line with your company’s culture.
