How Can Citizens Prevent Political Corruption?
By Stephen Shepherd, Marketing −
Our forefathers declared in The Declaration of Independence that “Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed” to the end of securing the citizens’ inalienable rights.
Many people fear today that our increasingly convoluted political system creates far too many opportunities for our representatives to participate in corrupt behavior and remain under the radar. When elected officials take advantage of such situations, they abuse the power given them and ultimately deny the people’s rights of security and legitimate representation.
Political Consultants and Corruption
Former political consultant Melvin Lowe was recently convicted for making fraudulent payments totaling $100,000 to help political friends of his former boss, Sen. John Sampson, D-N.Y.
Of the people involved in this scandal, only some were elected officials. This has made the public realize they must be concerned with not only the moral integrity of their elected leaders, but also that of the many influential consultants and organizations that lie outside of the realm of the ballot box.
Restoring Trust
Preet Bharara, the U.S. Attorney for the New York Southern District, expressed optimism that the uncovering of this particular group’s corruption is a step in the right direction to root out corruption and “restore the public’s trust” in local politicians. While his optimism is encouraging, we can be sure that more scandals are being carried out under our noses.
Through the diligent efforts of attorneys like Bharara, more corruption scandals will be uncovered, but the process is both complicated and expensive to investigate. Wouldn’t it be better to prevent corruption from ever happening in the first place instead of publicly funding the clean-up efforts after the damage has been done, our trust lost and our money squandered?
A Pragmatic Solution
The existing system of investigation and sentencing does nothing to prevent political corruption from occurring. It is a Band-Aid, not a cure. One cost-effective method to subvert such corruption would be to conduct ongoing lie detection tests of public officials.
EyeDetect™ technology can identify deception and fraud with 85 percent accuracy. The behavior of human eyes reflects signs of stress and deception that are undetectable by humans. With the use of this lie detection technology, officials are enabled to catch corrupt officials and their employees based on completely unbiased mathematical data generated from the behavior of their eyes. This means that corrupt government officials could be caught and deterred well before crimes occur. It is the best available solution to restoring public trust in politicians’ willingness to protect our rights. Trust this eye lie detection software.
