Election Fraud in the Sunshine State

Election Season is upon us

It’s that wonderful time of year when the leaves fall, the air gets crisp, pumpkin spice lattes are everywhere, and people who were once good, start doing shady things. Election Season is upon us and with less than 2 weeks for Americans to cast their votes, it appears that some citizens are taking the election into their own hands.

Cheating the System

Two women in unrelated cases are facing election fraud charges in the sunshine state. The Florida women were involved in the illegal marking of ballots and filling out fake registration forms. It is believed that the two women were marking the ballots to help their prospective causes.

Grandma’s Going to Jail

Gladys Coego, a 74 year old woman from Miami has been moonlighting as a temporary worker for the Miami-Dade County Elections Department. Her job description involved having to open up envelopes that contained completed ballots. The Florida grandmother is accused of illegally marking those ballots in favor of mayor candidate, Raquel Regalado. Gladys now faces two felony charges in connection with her illegally marking the electoral ballots.

Legalizing Marijuana

The second woman, who in an unrelated case, allegedly filled out fake voter-registration form in behalf of United for Care (which advocates for the legalization of marijuana). Tomike Curgil is being charged with five felony counts of submitting false voter-registration forms. There was no release of a previous criminal record.

Should’ve Used EyeDetect

This is a great reminder that regardless of people volunteering in an election, that greater security and fraud measures should be taken. The great state of Florida needs to implement better means of screening their volunteers who handle such sensitive information. If the Miami-Dade county had used EyeDetect to screen the volunteer candidates beforehand, this mess could have been avoided.
